MacBeans first began roasting coffee at 3 Little Belmont Street Aberdeen in October 1989, moving to our present larger premises at 2 Little Belmont Street (pictured right) in 1995.

The idea for MacBeans came from joint founder and now sole owner Ian Cukrowski, a native of Dunfermline, Fife who had previously worked in the oil industry as an offshore chemist.

On the 29th July 1988 Ian left the Piper Alpha oil platform for his fortnight at home. Exactly one week later the platform exploded killing 167 workers including Ian's back to back colleague. From that moment Ian decided that he wanted to get out of oil and try his hand at something else.

Having developed a taste for good quality tea & coffee, Ian used to travel to Dundee, where he had spent is college days, to buy the quality he required.

On returning from one of these trips, Ian thought
"Why do I have to complete a journey of 140 miles to get my freshly roasted coffee & good leaf tea? I could open a shop and sell it myself."

15 years after this thought, MacBeans is now one of Aberdeen's best-known specialist shops, with hundreds of regular customers.

Supplying local restaurants, pubs, offices, and hairdressing salons, MacBeans also have an extensive list of mail order customers throughout the UK, all of whom appreciate the quality and service that we offer.

Now with internet access, ordering couldn't be easier, so if you haven't tried us before, call now and give your tastebuds a treat that you'll want to repeat.
