NICARAGUA JAVA ABISINIA Las Nubes Micro Lot
During my field trip to Nicaragua in March 2018, I spent a couple of days in the company of farmer Victor Robelo, a man of great passion, vision and stories. In 1979, when Victor was only a child, his family were exiled and their land taken from them by the Sandinista National Liberation Front. After the civil war ended in 1990, Victor’s family returned and some land was given back to them and so began his quest to rebuild his family fortunes. With the help of his architect wife they have built ‘Las Nubes’, one of the most eco-friendly coffee plantations and modern mills I’ve ever had the pleasure to visit.
Whilst there, I was invited to take part in a ‘blind cupping’ session. Ten different varietals from that years crop were on show.
One stood out for me ! This was coffee produced from seeds imported from Java and grown at ‘Las Nubes’.
At this time, all of last years crop had been sold, so I immediately requested some of the 2018/19 micro lot grown crop.
We are the only roaster in Scotland to receive this niche coffee.
Washed processed & medium roasted with a light creamy body, mild acidity, green apple, jasmine & pear.
The video below shows some of the pictures I took whilst visiting Nicaragua!
