INDIA - Monsoon Malabar AA
Characteristics: Robust in body with chocolaty flavours and notes of earthiness, caramel and walnut. Heavy-bodied, pungent and dry. This unique, aromatic, aged coffee has a mellow, rich taste without any bitterness.
Further Information: The 'Monsoon Malabar' is deliberately exposed to the monsoon rain and winds for a three to four month period. This process causes the beans to swell and lose their original acidity, resulting in a very distinctive, earthy flavour profile. It also gives the unroasted beans a pale, yellow colour which develops into a lovely, deep gold once roasted.
This coffee is unique to the Malabar Coast of Karnataka in Kerala as well as the Nilgiri mountains of Tamil Nadu and has protected status.
